The short answer: Most people searching for a Mindbody alternative are not unhappy with booking and payments. They are unhappy that members keep leaving quietly and nobody has time to chase them. That is a retention problem, not a platform problem, and swapping platforms rarely fixes it. NexScale Chloe™ sits on top of Mindbody and works that problem without a migration.

What Mindbody does well

Mindbody is the category giant for a reason. Based on its own public materials as of August 2026, it offers scheduling, booking, point of sale, marketing automation, a branded member app, analytics and more than 700 integrations with an open API, and it owns ClassPass. Its AI has moved quickly this year. SmartDesk handles missed calls and messages and books clients, Messenger AI covers member conversations, and Weekly AI Insights summarizes revenue, utilization and new members.

In July 2026 parent company Playlist launched AI Concierge, a 24/7 virtual front desk debuting first for Mindbody customers. Among early adopters, Playlist reports that the large majority of customer messages are handled without staff involvement, saving something in the order of 25 hours a month, and it is included for top-tier subscribers at no extra charge across several markets. It is explicitly the first product in a new AI suite. The July product release also added faster marketing sync and a quicker branded class cart. Behind all of it sits a merger with EGYM that created a fitness group spanning tens of thousands of businesses and venues.

That is a lot of platform. Verify current features, tiers and pricing directly with Mindbody.

The real question: what are you actually trying to fix?

It is worth separating two complaints that often arrive together.

If your complaint is cost, complexity or support, a platform change may genuinely be the right call, and there are good boutique-first options. Go and evaluate them properly.

If your complaint is that members drift away and you find out at the cancellation or the failed payment, changing platforms will not help. You will spend three to six months on a migration and arrive at the same problem on a different login screen. Retention is not a booking feature. It is an operating habit, and almost nobody has the hours for it.

The second question: where does Mindbody's AI point?

Mindbody's AI is strong, and it points at the front door and the marketing calendar. SmartDesk and AI Concierge answer, respond and book. Marketing tools send campaigns. All of that is inbound or broadcast.

Chloe points somewhere else. It watches behaviour across attendance, booking frequency and engagement, flags churn risk roughly six to eight weeks before a member would typically cancel, prepares personalized one-to-one outreach in your brand voice for your approval, and reports back through a two-minute Daily Brief, a Day Wrap and monthly executive summaries in plain language. It is not a campaign tool and it is not a front desk. It is the follow-up nobody has time to do, done consistently. We go deeper on the mechanics in member churn prediction for fitness businesses.

Because Chloe connects to Mindbody through its API, the two are complementary. You keep your system of record, your ClassPass reach and your integrations, and you add the retention layer on top. Nothing is replaced.

How to decide

Before you shortlist a replacement platform, answer these three.

Is my real problem the software, or the follow-up? Write down the last five members you lost and when you first could have known. If the answer is weeks earlier, the problem is not booking.

What would a migration cost me in weeks and risk? Member history, payment tokens, staff retraining and a quiet period while everyone relearns the schedule. Price that honestly.

Can I fix the actual problem without touching the platform? If yes, that is almost always the better first move.

If Mindbody genuinely no longer fits, change it with open eyes. If what you want is retention worked earlier, without touching what already works, that is the job NexScale Chloe was built for. For a broader view of the category, see our complete guide to AI for wellness and fitness businesses.
